The endless allure of seaside travel and diving adventures stems from Taiwan’s distinctive marine environment, shaped by its diverse coastal landscapes and expansive ocean waters. Whether it is the resource-rich offshore islands of Penghu and Lanyu, or the captivating northern and southern coastlines, the ocean is deeply woven into the daily lives of the island’s residents.
However, the chemical composition of seawater is highly complex and subject to numerous environmental and external influences. Regular monitoring of coastal and beach water quality helps us better understand the surrounding marine environment and ensures the safety of recreational and water usage activities.
Long-term monitoring not only reveals historical trends in water quality but also evaluates the effectiveness of pollution control efforts, providing critical insights for developing marine pollution prevention strategies.
Taiwan’s marine water quality monitoring program began in 2002. Currently, monitoring is conducted across 20 coastal regions at a total of 105 sampling sites. In addition to marine and beach water quality data, monitoring results from the Environmental Protection Administration's river surveys, the Fisheries Agency's fishing port assessments, and the Nuclear Safety Commission's marine radiological monitoring are integrated to provide the public with comprehensive water quality information.
Pure seawater, safe enjoyment!
